Dhoni's gameplay

Mahendra Singh Dhoni, quite evidently, doesn't believe only in new hairstyles; he has the courage and foresight to go for a complete makeover too, and not just off the field.

He has, of course, already come a long way from his "hippie" days: he is not a simple, small-town boy anymore; he is confident and easily the country's most demanding star now.

Dhoni could have stopped right there: after all, he is already the captain of the national team. But then, he hasn't come so far by playing it safe: he was primarily a wicket-keeper but he knew it wouldn't take him too far. So he opted for the big and high-risk shots which caught the eye of the selectors.

It was in 2006, during the Pakistan tour, that he faced his moment of reckoning though. He had already made an impact in the One-dayers, with a smashing 148 and a blistering, nearly record-breaking 183 not out. But for the first time, he was seeing real pace bowling.

Shoaib Akhtar came at him so fast that he wondered if he deserved his place. Luckily, his batting partner in Faisalabad was Sachin Tendulkar: he simply asked him to relax and play his natural game; a few deliveries later, he smashed Akhtar for a six and ended with a century.

There was no looking back after that; his reputation, however, had already started preceding his future. He came to be known as the big hitter and a smasher.

Over the last season, the India captain is riding on another change, probably his most significant one in his life of an anchor.

Dhoni batted at number Three or Four in the IPL and in two games in the Twenty20 World Cup too.

In One-dayers, his record is impressive.
IN ODI'S Dhoni have played 171 matches in which he scored 5,733 runs with 7 centuries and 37 half centuries.183 runs is his highest score in an ODI.
Being a wicket keeper he caught 177 catches and stumped 55 times of his 171 matches.

As of January 2010, Dhoni is the highest ranked ODI batsman on the ICC Rankings List. Dhoni was named as captain of Wisden's first-ever Dream Test XI Team in 2009 and has topped the list of world’s top 10 earning cricketers compiled by Forbes.
recently,Dhoni married Sakshi. Sakshi Dhoni, a Kolkata girl, is studying hotel management and was working as a trainee at the Taj Bengal where the two of them met two years ago.
